For over 15 years I have been specializing in the breeding of Australian parrots, particularly those that are unusual and/or rare to aviculture in the United States.  My collection excludes those species common to the pet trade and those that make too much noise!  Please use this website to not only learn about availability of my birds, but also take advantage of the details provided on each species I maintain.  I include information on the wild birds in their native habitat as well as some tips on keeping them in your aviary.  For your enjoyment I've placed photos of wild Australian parrots that I've taken on some of my birdwatching adventures to Australia.  I am located in beautiful San Diego County, California, and my birds thrive in outdoor aviaries.  Many of the species I breed would not make good pets and I am reluctant to hand feed them for this reason.  If you have a strong desire to make one of these species a pet, I might be willing to provide a baby for you to raise at your own risk.  I have found some of the birds listed under "grass parakeets" to remain tame after hand rearing.  All of these birds are at their best in an aviary and some make great, colorful additions to a mixed aviary.  I think keeping a mixture of species in a large planted aviary to be the ultimate for enjoying birds.  I would be happy to provide some assistance in assembling a mixture of compatible species; there are some challenges and tricks, but it is possible to keep some of these parrots with finches, doves, and pheasants as well as other parrot species.

All of my birds are maintained outdoors in flights between 4 and 16 feet long.  I feed pellets, fortified seed mixture and fresh fruits and vegetables.  I currently have King Parrots (Australian and Green-winged), Rosellas (Crimson and Western) and grass parakeets (Hooded, Mulga, Scarlet-Chested, Elegant and Tuorquoisine).  In the past I've also bred Bluebonnets, Barnards, Eastern rosellas, Yellow rosellas, Mealy rosellas, Northern Rosellas, Princess-of-Wales, parrotlets, Pionus and lovebirds.  I am knowledgeable in most Australian parrots available in the US with the exception of cockatoos and lories, so, if you are wondering about something I don't have go ahead and ask (and I can obtain most from friends who breed similar birds).  You'll notice I keep very few mutations, this is because I enjoy the birds in their native plumage the best.

Throughout this website I've tried to use the names as published in Australian field guides...after all these are birds from Australia!  I do provide names used here in the US when they are different.  Click on the links to the left to view species that interest you.

The information provided on the following pages comes from my experience working with these birds, field trips to Australia and the amazing books published by Forshaw and Cooper:  Australian Parrots and Parrots of the World All pictures found on this web site were taken by, and property of Michael Domeier, do not use or duplicate without express permission.

A Little Bit About The Breeder

This is not a full-time business for me; I do it simply for enjoyment.  I love birds and spend much of my free time traveling to view them in the wild.  I hold a Ph.D. in marine biology and work as a researcher at a non-profit marine fisheries laboratory (see www.mcsi.org).
